Alt Server Virtualization is a server distribution based on the Linux kernel for providing virtualization functions in corporate infrastructure.
Alt Virtualization Server is an enterprise-level solution that allows you to migrate to import-substituting software and hardware.
The distribution kit Alt Virtualization Server is included in the Unified Register of Russian Programs for Electronic Computers and Databases.
Management of the virtualization system is possible through the command interface, web interface, using API.
Distribution use cases
- Basic hypervisor. Implemented on the basis of KVM, it includes the qemu virtual machine startup utility and the unified libvirt virtual environment management interface. To work with the hypervisor, use the virsh command line interface or the virt-manager graphical application on the administrator's workstation.
- A cluster of virtualization servers based on the PVE project. Installed on a group of servers. Designed to manage KVM virtual environment and LXC containers, virtual network environment and data storage. For management, a command line interface is used, as well as a web interface. Integration with corporate authentication systems (AD, LDAP and others based on PAM) is possible.
- Enterprise-level cloud virtualization based on the OpenNebula project. To use, you need 1 or more management servers (can be virtual) and a group of servers to run virtual KVM environments or LXC containers. Integration with corporate authentication systems is possible. Allows you to create virtualization templates and, based on them, deploy new virtual machines with the desired set of properties. Serves to create a corporate cloud resource IaaS (virtual infrastructure as a service), the volume of which, if necessary, is increased through integration with third-party public clouds.
- Container virtualization. Docker, Podman or LXC/LXD are offered for use. You can use Kubernetes to build a cluster and manage containers.
Alt Virtualization Server provides a set of additional services that are in demand in a virtualization infrastructure of any complexity and architecture:
- NFS network file system server;
- distributed network file system Ceph;
- distributed network file system GlusterFS;
- iSCSI support both as client and server;
- network services DNS and DHCP;
- virtual network switch Open vSwitch;
- bird dynamic routing service with support for BGP, OSPF, etc.;
- network load balancer HAProxy, keepalived;
- Apache and Nginx web servers.
